Kleinmond reservoir levels are dangerously low

Overstrand Municipality is appealing to Kleinmond residents to urgently reduce water usage as the Palmiet River Raw Water Pump Station is currently not functioning due to flood damage.

Maintenance staff is attending to the problem despite difficult access.

Currently, the reservoir levels should last for two days if residents use water sparingly.

In view of the above, the Municipal Manager, in consultation with the Executive Mayor, has decided to institute immediate water restrictions.

Water may only be used for cooking and bathing. Only flush toilets when necessary and refrain from using automatic washing machines.

Car washing is prohibited and gardens are not allowed to be watered with municipal water.

The Municipality will provide water tankers in the various suburbs in the event that the reservoirs run dry as in the case of Greater Hermanus.

Please stock up on bottled water and assist us in ensuring that the little water we have can last as long as possible until the pumps have been restored.
